The topic of the takeaway is a question that pops up a lot in lessons and within the Online Academy. Very often players are looking to change how their takeaway looks (maybe the club is too far inside or outside). What’s important when starting down this road is to first establish if your takeaway is actually negatively influencing your impact position or not, because players can reach the highest level with a takeaway that doesn’t ‘look’ textbook. Hence why it is so important to make swing changes based on ball flight rather than aesthetics.

However if your takeaway is having a negative knock on effect to the rest of your swing the video below may be helpful.

I go over a couple of my preferences for starting the golf swing and a two very simple drills you can use straight away to begin creating a feel for the right motion.
