Pro VS Ams
Pros VS Ams and the Lead Arm- Whats the difference?
One of the biggest differences we tend to see between professionals and amateurs in the backswing is how the lead arm works relative to the torso rotation.
Amateur players will often create more lead arm adduction, pulling the arm further across the chest, usually because the torso and pelvis haven’t rotated enough. The body stops turning, so the arms continue travelling.
Professionals generally create more rotation through the thorax and pelvis, which means the lead arm tends to stay more “in front” of the body with less lead arm adduction across-the-chest. The swing often looks shorter, more connected, and easier to sequence in transition.
A lot of the consistency issues we see in amateur swings can come from the arms outrunning the pivot.
