Downswing Lateral Motion (RNT Training)

A player who has an out-to-in swing path will often display very little lateral motion of the pelvis towards the target on the downswing. Adding a lateral move in is a shallowing component that will significantly help to improve the swing path. Tour players typically display 4-6inches of sway towards the target in the downswing with the pelvis.

Reactive Nueromuscular Training to develop a Stretch Shortening Cycle. RNT is a method many coaches use across a lot of sports to develop new movement patterns. The idea is that you have to do the work, and the more work you do the quicker you can learn how a movement should feel.

This RNT drill will encourage good separation in transition and more lateral motion of the pelvis which develops a stretch shortening cycle of the muscle tissues. This is a contributor to club head speed. This drill will also encourage a player to post strong into the lead side through impact, ideal if you have a tendency to ‘hang back’ on your trail side and swing to far from out-to-in.
